Your Instructors

BERNICE RAABIS • Founder of Dance The Medicine

Bernice is on a mission to spread conscious dance communities across the globe. In 2011, she founded Dance Church, a long-running and wildly successful conscious dance in the vibrant mountain town of Nelson, BC, Canada. There, she DJed and facilitated weekly, weaving epic soundscapes into transformative dance experiences that support freedom through connection to self, community, and humanity. In 2019, she set out to gather an epic team of conscious dance professionals, and the Dance The Medicine Team was born, dedicated to providing embodied conscious dance education.

Bernice is a certified Soul Motion facilitator, a student of the Tamalpa Institute, and a relational somatic therapist. Her work is deeply grounded in embodiment, community building, and supporting her students to deliver the specific type of dance medicine they feel called to bring into the world.

WHAT OUR ALUMNI SAY

Monika, The Netherlands

The course offered so much more than expected. Already the manual was so complete and inspiring. It opened up my creativity for DJ'ing again and how to work with Traktor software, as well using a Controller. Feeling huge gratitude for Bernice, Alex and their team. For their endless enthusiasm, availability, wisdom, professionality, inspiration. And their encouragement to be authentic and just go, offer our passion into the world!

Dario

 Dario, Italy

Such a helpful experience! When I signed up I wondered if it was the right course for me because there was a lot of talk about the technical stuff of Traktor. This I learned already by other means and I wanted to deep dive in the ecstatic dance part and how to make sets/dances and learn new tools for that. The course gave me so much new ways to make and look at an ecstatic dance set. Also the teachers were awesome. They have so much knowledge combined and they gave me really new ways how to work with transitions, making a set and improvise or play during a set/dance.

When I started I was a complete beginner (I couldn't even turn up the volume on my controller). All the teachers were so knowledgeable and generous and they made me feel so safe. As a result, I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone and can now DJ! I learnt a huge amount and yet it was also able to fit it around my work, travels and wider life. I feel lucky that I'm now part of such a beautiful network, I can't wait to meet more of you in person.

FAQ

→ Is this a beginner's training?

The DTM Online DJ School offers training ideal for supporting both complete beginners and conscious dance professionals with some DJ-ing experience. We provide personalised 1-on-1 sessions during the training and at times will divide participants into groups based on skill level.

→ How do I know if I am a beginner or intermediate?

If you're new to DJing or unsure how to use DJ software, you're a beginner. If you can confidently DJ at events, you're likely intermediate. The main difference is how deeply you understand the software. Even experienced DJs with only basic tech skills can benefit from the DTM Ecstatic DJ School. No need to stress about labeling yourself — your level will be assessed during training, and you can switch groups anytime.

→ Do I need a DJ controller?

While you are not required to have a DJ controller/console for this course, you will get far more out of the course if you do have one. We recommend the Traktor S2 MK3 or newer Traktor MX2. The S2 is an entry-level controller and likely the easiest DJ controller to learn on; however, you can use any brand/model of DJ controller that is compatible with Traktor Pro 4 for this training. If you need support with deciding which controller to acquire, please email info@dancethemedicine.com.

→ Are there any software requirements for the training?

Yes, you will be required to have the latest Traktor software. The software is included in the price of a controller should you decide to buy a new Traktor controller.

→ Will I receive a certification?
Yes, after successful completion of the training, you’ll be a DTM certified Ecstatic DJ. Certificates are sent as a PDF on request. We do not certify those who take the course self-paced, as we have no way of knowing whether they have completed the course and homework. If this is an issue for you, please contact us so we can discuss it.

→ How long will the recordings be available?

The videos will be uploaded after 48 hours, so you watch the classes you missed or to review. They will be available for a period of 1 year from the first day you log into your online classroom portal (We use Thinkific).

→ Do you offer in-person trainings?

Yes! We run several in-person trainings every year. If you would rather take our In-Person DJ Training, click here to see our full list of upcoming trainings.

→ What are the payment requirements and do you have payment plans?

A non-refundable deposit is required to book and secure your place. Balance is due 15 days before the event starts. Please carefully read our Event Terms & Conditions as by booking on our event, you become legally bound by these terms. We offer flexible payments plans, please inquire with info@dancethemedicine.com.

→ If I can no longer make it, can I transfer my payments to another event?

If you can not make the training you have signed up for, we are happy to transfer your payments to another event or keep it in trust until you are ready to take the training. We will honour this for up to a year.

→ I'm not sure which path is right for me. Can you please advise me?

Absolutely! Simply send us an email at info@dancethemedicine.com or book a 30 minute consultation with Bernice.
