FAQ

Q: What is a Certified DTM Teacher?

A Certified DTM Teacher has completed a defined pathway of education, personal practice, mentorship, and practical experience with Dance The Medicine. Certification recognizes professional competency in conscious dance facilitation while supporting each teacher to bring their own skills, perspectives, and authentic expression to their work. Click below to go to our DTM Teacher Certification Page.

Q: What does the DTM Teacher Certification Program include?

The certification program combines core training, mentorship, supervised practice, team participation, conscious dance exposure, and practical teaching experience. It is designed to support both professional development and personal growth, with an emphasis on embodied, ethical, and real-world facilitation.

Q: What is the difference between a Certificate of Completion and DTM Teacher Certification?

A Certificate of Completion recognizes your participation in an individual DTM training and can be used independently for many professional purposes. DTM Teacher Certification is an optional, extended professional pathway that combines multiple trainings with mentorship, practical experience, and additional requirements, making the graduate eligible to register with the International Conscious Movement Teachers Association (ICMTA). Learn more about the difference by going to our Certification page.

Q: How many hours of training are required in the  DTM Teacher Certification Program?

The certification program requires 400 hours of overall conscious dance exposure, including 200 hours of training with Dance The Medicine, with 80 of those hours completed in person.

Q: Do Self Led Courses count towards teacher certification?

Self-led courses do not count toward DTM training hours because, without support and guidance, we cannot ensure that the content has been fully understood or appropriately applied. However, if you have previously taken self-led courses with us and would like to join the Teacher Certification Program, we can discuss a reduction in tuition for the course you would be required to retake it, either online or in person.

Q: How do I become a Certified DTM Teacher?

The DTM Teacher Certification Program is application-based. The first step is to take a training or retreat with us to see if it’s a good match for you. If you decide to pursue full professional certification, you can apply so long as you have demonstrated readiness and a strong understanding of the principles taught by Dance The Medicine. The training or retreat you initially take with us will count toward your training hours for the certification program. If you're ready to apply, please click the button below for more information and the application form.
